Eddie for Pope.... (at least keep him out of the ALP)

There is some suggestion that Eddie McGuire has been approached to join the ALP and run for a federal seat. Could they be so fucking stupid? Do they really think he is that popular that he would win votes on name alone? For every vote he may gain he is likely to lose at least two. He is not that popular in Victoria, mainly because he is everywhere.
He is president of the most popular AFL club, Collingwood. People not from Victoria will not understand that Collingwood is the most hated of all clubs by everyone else. Since Channel Eddie has had the football, the only club to get coverage is Collingwood. Plus he keeps calling games in which they are playing.
His footy show also has Sam Newman on it. You can kiss Family First preferences goodbye.

In the American system, someone like Eddie would have a real chance, he could run for executive office (Governor) and his profile would help him, being a polarising individual isn't necessarily a bad thing in politics. However, in a parliamentary system he would be lost unless he was parachuted into the leadership position (now that would be a radical threat to both Kim Beazley and John Howard).

I hate to say it, but Eddie would get Family First preferences hands down, after all, he is a devout Catholic and would probably get a long with the Family First mob, who unfortunately seem to be aligning themselves more and more to the left on things like welfare and government services.

Yeah, I don't know. It is all part of the Right of the ALP grand scheme in Victoria I think. Normally, I would say this drive me more towards the Greens but after hearing the National Party the other day, I am starting to feel a strange draw to the country bumkins.

If it all gets you down blair and your looking for someone to vote for then there is always Andrew Bolt.

But then again Blot is probable a better candidate for pope, so maybe he will get that job.

This has been copied from my site.

B S Fairman. With regard to your reply to my comment on your post re Eddie M. We people of NSW are already inundated with sport injury affected dizzy polititions. They also infect the Federal scenario too. However, I; like most people in Aus, will concede that, Eddie M would probably go unnoticed within VIC politics, but be advised, keep him away from the education portfolio.
